Kagoshima Daily Tea is harvested in late spring; this is Kagoshima’s second flush. This tea is also in the fukamushi sencha category, which employs deep steaming to bring out a sweet taste. Containing less caffeine and more catechins due to a more tippy harvest, it is excellent for the connoisseur’s daily tea. It is sold at an unusually affordable price for its quality. Generally, the second flush is picked when the weather warms causing the tea leaf to somewhat stiffen. This tends to add an unwanted flavor and aroma to the leaf which you may identify in lower quality teas often used in tea bags. To compensate for this loss in quality with harvesting later in spring, less leaves are plucked from each shoot, thus the term tippy.
